What It Is

Windsurf is an agentic AI coding editor, originally built by Codeium and now part of Cognition (the company behind Devin). According to Windsurf’s official docs, the editor combines four AI surfaces: Tab, Command, Chat, and Cascade. Tab provides “AI-powered code suggestions with Tab to Jump, Tab to Import, and inline suggestions, powered by our custom model.” Command (Cmd/Ctrl+I) generates or edits code inline from natural language prompts, and Chat lets you talk to your codebase with @-mentions, persistent context, pinned files, and inline citations.
